Your Turn

Okay, it's your turn to provide the prompts. I've listed fifty-three potential prompts. Now each writer must list two prompts. Come on; two to my fifty-three? That's a bargain. Here's the rub. Once someone has listed a prompt or a writing exercise, you can't repeat it, so you'll need to skim previous lists before adding yours. If you try to post and it doesn't show up, send me an email, and I'll check to see if I need to moderate the comments.

Your turn. I'm waiting . . .

Think of a story that you have heard before, such as a children's story like Snow White, and rewrite your own version of what the story would be like if you were Snow White, the witch, or one of the dwarves. You can use plenty of thoughts and dialogue!

Try to describe something in an unusual way-like with one or two words that generally are not used to describe that object. Just like Jessica, Sarah, and I did in our craft lesson.

Personify something that would be really entertaining if you described it as a person instead as a place or thing. An example would be describing the computer talking to you or moving like a person would.

Focus on a person. List their attributes. Show those attributes in how they can be shown in a positive or negative light. Example: Karen can be a loudmouth. Karen always has something to say, she always knows how to break the ice and make everyone feel comfortable.

This one is actually from Michelle:
Sloppy Shoppers-Write about your recent trip to the supermarket and the nasty person that was there. There is always at least one nasty person in the supermarket. Use words that describe food to describe the person. Like layers of dirt caked on her or his feet. The oily hair that hung over his or her shoulders. Thanks, Michelle B. Sweat

Think of a person that has been a big inspiration in your life. Go into detail about one incident or encounter that you had with this person that made them so important to you. It could be in a positive or negative way, just describe how this person affected your life.

Exercises from Whitney:

"The Unwanted Gift": Make a list of 10 unwanted gifts. Then circle the one you find most intriguing. Describe it. Start writing.

Alliteration: Allieration is head rhyme, that is, the repetition of the initial sound in two or more neighboring words or lines. For example, to show difficulty eating candy one might write, "chewy chunks of chocolate." Or, to show boys fighting, "boys bashing boys." When the sounds of the words themselves re-enforce the meaning (in the first example, the slowness and difficulty in "ch"-"ch", and in the second, the "b"-"b"-"b"), the writer achieves a greater degree of vividness.

The exercise is this: using alliteration, apply a phrase to each of the following:
~snakes moving through grass
~children laughing happily at a birthday party
~someone running very fast
~someone eating something very sour
~bouncing
~ragged movements
~a very luxurious bubblebath
~an explosion
~highly complex and beautiful music
~Come up with five more of your own!

Hi, this is Edie. I am on my bellsouth account but my vsu is eedaniel.

Uh, my blog idea was about colors. I want the title to be colors. What is your favorite and least favorite color. Describe the feeling you think of when you invison that color. What type of personality would that color have. Tell the story of that color. Family, friends, obstacles. Basically personify that color.

For instance I like orange. I think it is a warm color. It is most seen in the fall but i think orange is spunky and mode fitting. I think orange compliments some and spites others. I think spite may be the wrong word. That is my first blog. I will holla back at you for the next one. C U IN class :)

From Layla:

I think a good idea for a text would be to list that things that irritate you or list your pet peeves, and then come up with a text from that. You could label the text Pet peeves.

I hope this is okay!! Thanks, Layla

From Edie:

I thought I email at least one blog idea after I brought up the problem the site was having in class. I did not see my blog topic and I can not log in. I forgot my email or login and password. I guess I can not use the same info to create another account if an account already has the info attached to it.

Her is my original idea. What if we were colors instead of people. What tone do you set. Describe life as a color.

My other idea; what would babies say if they could talk?

From Jessica:

Here are my writing topics. I was getting real confused on how to post them. I'm pretty sure I already posted one but I'm giving you two just incase.

Topic 1: Write about were you want to be in 10 years as far as married or not, your job, number of kids, and any other dreams you may have and them file it away and look at it in 10 years and see how your dreams have changed or come true.

Topic 2: Describe your favorite sport without saying the name of the sport. Example, Describe football without every saying the word football. Write it like the person who is reading it has never seen a game of football.

Thanks so much,
Jessica
